SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY
To prevent sexual harassment of women at workplace, the onus lies on the employers and the
institutions to protect the rights of its women employees, prevent their exploitation , ensure gender
equity and treat women employees with respect. Sexual harassment is a clear violation of women right under Articles 14 and 15, her right to live with dignity under Article 21 and a right to work with dignity in a safe environment under Article 19 (1) (g) of the Constitution of India. The Supreme Court of India has laid down the Vishakha guidelines to protect against sexual harassment at the workplace.
In this regard, Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research and its constituent unit, Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, being an educational institution, adopts this policy in order to prevent, prohibit and punish sexual harassment at the workplace. The policy upholds that every women employee shall have the right to work in a work place which is free from any form of sexual
Definition of Sexual Harassment:
The following are considered as sexual harassment of women:
1. Physical contact and sexual advances
2. Demand or request for sexual favors
3. Sexually colored remarks
4. Showing pornography
5. Any other unwelcome physical / verbal or nonverbal conduct of sexual nature.
- To protect women’s rights, to guard against sexual harassments and the right to livelihood.
- To provide congenial working atmosphere for women that will prevent acts of sexual harassment against women.
- To have a redressal mechanism by constituting a committee wherein complaints of women employees pertaining to sexual harassment will be heard.
- To implement appropriate disciplinary action in the cases of sexual harassments which come up for hearing in the committee.
- To create awareness regarding sexual harassment of women in the work place.
Anti Ragging Measures
As per the guidelines/regulations of the Medical Council of India and the University Grants Commission respectively, the University has instructed Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College the constituent unit of the University who has implemented measures to curb ragging in the campus.

Right To Information Act
In 1986 a group of philanthropists interested in the cause of medical education and social services with an intention to develop the backward area of Kolar district, registered the Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust, headed by Sri.R.L.Jalappa, Member of Parliament and champion of co-operative movement.
The trust started Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka, Kolar in the year 1986. Through this college the trust has sought to make a significant contribution to medical education research and health care to rural population which was the primary need of not only this region but also the entire country. The college is situated in Tamaka 5 Km from Kolar town abutting National Highway No.4 (between Bangalore and Chennai).
The trust in its stride for attainment of its vision, mission and objectives obtained for its medical college ISO 9001-2000 Certification and Accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC, INDIA) in the year 2006. Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College is one of the few colleges in India to have achieved this remarkable feat.
The University Grants Commission of India after being satisfied about the infrastructure and teaching facilities recommended to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India to confer deemed to be university status to the medical college. Accordingly, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India conferred deemed to be University status to the medical college in May 2007. At present The University has Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College as its constituent college. Additional institutions in other disciplines are in the process of induction i.e. Sri Devaraj Urs College of Nursing, Tamaka, Kolar and R.L.Jalappa Institute of Technology, Doddabalapur.
