  • Department of Physiotherapy

    Physiotherapy is a vital part of health care profession which deals with mobility enhancement to prevent disability in various illness and medical conditions. The world health organisation (WHO) defined physiotherapy as “Physiotherapists assess, plan and implement rehabilitative programs that improve or restore human motor functions, maximize movement ability, relieve pain syndromes, and treat or prevent physical challenges associated with injuries, diseases, and other impairments. They apply a broad range of physical therapies and techniques such as movement, ultrasound, heating, laser and other techniques. They may develop and implement programmes for screening and prevention of common physical ailments and disorders”.

    The physiotherapy department was established in the year 1996 with 2 therapist under RLJ hospital and academic programme with BPT (Bachelor of physiotherapy) started in the year 2016.

    Physiotherapist treats medical conditions such as orthopedic dysfunctions, musculoskeletal disorders, post-operative care, trauma care, skin care, infections,

    Diabetes, stroke and other neurological disorders, cardio-respiratory diseases, children with disability, disability prevention and community physiotherapy. The physiotherapy services are available for all the age group i.e. from child birth to geriatrics.

    The physiotherapy department spread over more than 10000 s.ft and equipped with modern electrotherapy, exercise therapy, manual therapy equipment’s. It has well equipped modern hydrotherapy pool for the purpose of therapeutic aquatics to enhance balance and mobility for the pediatric, adult and geriatric populations. Currently the department has 6 therapists with different specialization in physiotherapy to provide nourishing treatment for various types of disorders. The department provides services to all the populations who are in need of physiotherapy treatment to reduce their dysfunctions.

    BPT course regulations:

    1. Course Duration:

    4 years and 6 months of compulsory internship

    1. Course pattern:

    Semester system (8 semesters) and 6 months internship

    1. Eligibility criteria:
    2. Candidates who have completed 17 years of age and must have passed 10+2, A Level, IB, American 12th Grade or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, English, and Biology individually.
    3. The candidate should secure minimum of 45% of marks together (aggregate) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for general category.
    4. The minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility shall be forty percent (40% aggregate in PCB) in optional subjects in case of students belonging to SC/ST and OBC students from Karnataka or as decided by the Government of Karnataka. Provided further that, the student shall have studied and passed English as one of the subjects.
    5. The candidate should have passed both years (11th & 12th grade) in the higher secondary examination in the respective board wherever it applies.

    OR

    1. Shall have passed two years Pre University examination conducted by the pre-University board of Karnataka state, with English as one of the subject and physics, chemistry, and biology as optional subjects.

    OR

    1. Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/councils/intermediate examination established by state Government/central Government and recognized as equivalent to two year pre University examination by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with English as one of the subjects and physics, chemistry and biology as optional subjects and the candidate shall have passed subjects of English, physics, chemistry and biology individually.

    OR

    1. Shall have passed an intermediate examination in science of an Indian university/ Boards/council or other recognized examining bodies with physics, chemistry, and biology which shall include a practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, physics, chemistry, and biology individually.

    1. Candidates with regular three years diploma in physiotherapy (DPT) course with compulsory 6-month rotatory internship from state/central/foreign recognized board.
