Learning is a continuous process in the field of Life Sciences. A clinician has to undergo training to upgrade their skills periodically to keep pace with the advances in medicine and changes in protocols.
Availability of resources to practice in terms of patient and the issues related to perfection of skills is answered by practicing on manikins under supervision of a skilled certified trainer.
To make effective application of skills, practice is necessary to be perfect. Before practicing on patients the clinician has to perfect his skills on manikins under the guidance of a trainer, get certified and practice.
Simulation is now rapidly becoming an important and integral adjunct to medical education and training. The need to professionalize medical education and training has seen the advent of medical simulators and manikins as a preferred choice for training.
Simulation has made it possible for an Apprentice to acquire, practice and become proficient on demand, besides meeting the critical requirements of various clinical competencies.
It will be an Integration of Education, Practicality, Assessment and Safe Practice in all medical & surgical subjects.
Regular CPCR programs were being conducted from October 2009 at RL Jalappa Hospital till June 2014 by Department of Anaesthesiology. Around 1000 people have been trained which included Interns, Post Graduates, Nursing Staff, Paramedics and general public.
The novel idea of providing such skills under one roof was initiated by our Hon’ble Vice -Chancellor, Prof P.F. Kotur. Under his guidance, the new state of art “Centre for Clinical Skills & Simulations” (CCSS) was established and inaugurated by Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, Hon’ble Minister of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka on 2nd August 2014.
This laboratory was built in an area of 337 Sq. Meters which comprises of Dry / Wet Labs, Conference Halls, Simulator and Endotrainers room.
The primary focus of this laboratory is to provide training to Undergraduates, Postgraduates, Interns, Nursing Staff, Medical faculty and paramedical personals in various diagnostic and procedural skills with the aid of simulators and manikins.
This laboratory caters to the needs of all the clinical departments. The monitoring committee headed by Prof. A. Bhaskaran, Vice Principal consists of all the Heads of the Departments and other enthusiastic and focused faculty members.
