WHITE COAT CEREMONY
The white coat reminds physicians of their professional duties, as prescribed by Hippocrates, to lead their lives and practice their art in uprightness and honour. The white coat is a symbol of the Doctor’s profession. The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage, welcoming the new medical students into the medical profession.
As medical students, they are bound by the same professional commitments that bind all physicians. This ceremony will join the symbol of the white coat with the virtues of altruism, responsibility, duty, honour, respect, and compassion. At the end of the month-long foundation course the white coat ceremony was conducted for the 1st MBBS students at the PG auditorium.
The program was conducted by the faculty co-ordinator Dr.Ashwini.N.S under the chairmanship of our Respectable Principal Dr.Sreeramulu.P.N and Vice-Principal Dr.Shashidhar.K.N. The ceremony was graced by our Honourable Chancellor Dr.Kumar.S and our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr.Pradeep Kumar G and our Respectable Registrar Dr.K.N.V.Prasad.Welcome address was given by parent Teachers Association Director, Dr.Mohan Kumar. There were inspiring and motivating speeches for the students by the dignitaries to embrace the new white coats and their stethoscopes. The importance of white coat was conveyed by our Principal Dr.Sreeramulu.P.N and Dr.Lakshmaiah.V , Medical Superintendent of R.L.Jalappa Hospital. With white coats comes also the responsibility to take decisions as a doctor and most importantly not to harm anyone.The white coat and the stethoscope was distributed to students by our Principal Dr.Sreeramulu.P. N and Vice-Principal Dr.Shashidhar.K.N along with UDOME Director Dr.Vinutha Shankar and Director of Academics Dr.Sarala.N. The students were very enthusiastic and excited to wear their white coat and. stethoscope. The student medical pledge was read by our Vice-Principal, Dr.Shashidhar.K.N. The thought of professionalism was seeded in the students and they were also made aware of their responsibilities as an Indian Medical Graduate by taking a white coat ceremony oath. The program was concluded by Vote of thanks by Dr.Ashwini.N.S, Faculty Co-ordinator for the Foundation Course followed by a group photo.
